How to Replace Music Tracks in PSX Games

[Using EZ CD PRO 95]

Go Back to the PSX Section

This is very easy to do.
However you must first know that this walkthrough only covers games that have more than 1 Track.
So the music would be in .WAV Format, & would come after the first Data Track. (You should be able to hear the Music Tracks when you pop it in a Audio CD Player, or use a Music Program to open the Disc on your Computer).
This walkthrough will not help you with games that only have 1 Track.
(Music in XA Format, embedded in the Data.)
That being said lets move on with it…

Place the PSX CD in your computers CD-Writer Drive.
For this walkthrough I will use Wu-Tang, Shaolin Style NTSC U/C

When you open EZ CD Pro you will be at a Menu.

Look at the Very Top, on the Menu Header.
You will see a Hammer Icon like this..
Click it.
Another window will open giving you a Track layout.
In my case it looks like this…

01 01 CD-ROM XA (Mode 2 mx) 286.3MB
02 Audio 03:32
03 Audio 04:35
04 Audio 02:26
05 Audio 03:05
06 Audio 02:45
07 Audio 02:47
08 Audio 02:01
09 Audio 01:53
10 Audio 01:47
11 Audio 00:23
02 Audio 00:43
13 Audio 00:40
14 Audio 00:21
15 Audio 03:02

Highlight and Click on the 1st Track. (The CD-ROM XA Game Data)
Then click on the [Read Track] Button.

The 'Track Read' window will open.

At the bottom of the 'Track Read' Window will be a button named [Browse…]
Click it, and a browser window will open so you can find a place on your Computer to store the Image.
Name it whatever you want, in this case I will call it Wu-Tang.
Hit the [Save] Button.
You will be back at the 'Track Read' Window, and the 'File name:' Browser will have the path and name of your Image to be.

In my case it says: C:\My Documents\Wu-Tang.ISO
Above this will be the 'Speed:' Browser. I have mine set on Auto which means Max.
But if the Disc is a bit scratched etc, I would suggest setting the read speed to 1x.
Good, now hit the [Read] Button in the top right corner of the 'Track Read' Window.

EZ CD PRO will now begin making a .ISO Image on your computer of that 1st Data Track.

Now at the very end of the Read you will receive an ERROR Message.

This is expected, so don't worry.
It happens because you are not copying the full disc, only a section. The ERROR is just telling you it notices a Track Gap (2-Second Gap that links the Data to the next Music Track) that it cannot Copy.
The Read will ERROR at Different points depending on how big the Game Data is.
Big games like Wu-Tang will error at about 98-99% into the Read.
Tiny games like Tetris, where the game data is like 20 or so MB's, and the Music takes up the rest of the CD, will Error around 90-95% into the Read.

Now close down the program after the Error.
Toss in the Music CD(s) of your Choice into your CD-Writer Drive.
Re-Open the EZ CD PRO Program.
Then begin ripping the Music Tracks you want by clicking that same Icon.

Make sure you have the Same Amount of Tracks as the Original Disc.
Having More Tracks wont make the Game play more music, Having Less will result in not hearing some of the Music (of course), and possibly having the game lock-up at some point when it tries to load the missing Track(s).
You do not have to keep your New Tracks the same length as the Tracks on the Original.
That will not make a Difference, so don't worry about it cutting off at some point when playing because the Original Track was 01:55 Minutes, & yours was 02:20 etc, that wont happen.

Also make sure you are going to have enough room on the CDR to Place these New Tracks along with your Game Data .ISO.
If it is over, use a 80 Minute 700MB CDR.
If it is still over, use a Audio Editing Program like "Audio Station" which will let you trim the end off of tracks until it all fits correctly.
Now we Burn it to CDR.
When you are all ready, having burned the ISO & the Alternate Music Tracks to your HD, Re-Open EZ CD PRO 95.
At the Main menu Click the [New…] Button.

A new window will open called 'CD Type'.

Select:Mixed-mode CD from image
You will open up a new Window that has 4 Headers.
Sleeve, General, Image File, & Audio Tracks
Click the Audio Tracks Tab if it doesn't open there already.
Open up the folder where you burned your Audio Tracks.
Drag them over.

(make sure you keep them in the correct order if you pinned down what Tracks are Menu Music, Level Music, etc, and place the new audio Tracks in the same order # wise) Now that you have the all your new Audio .WAV's on the sheet, Click the Image File Tab.
Now Click the [Browse] Button and find the .ISO Image you made of the Game Data.

In my case it would be Wu-Tang.ISO.
Double Click it, or just highlight it & Click the [Open] Button to Load it up.
In my case it now says: C:\My Documents\Wu-Tang.ISO in the 'Image file name' Box.
Now Click the General Tab.

Settings:
Writing Speed: [1x] (2x Max!)
[x] Write on the fly (directly to the CD)
[ ] Test before writing (don't check this as it takes Double the Time to complete the burn)
_ CD Format ______________________________________________________________
Session type: CD-ROM XA (Mode 2)
[x] Close disc
[ ] Disc at Once (Don't check this DAO isn't recommended w/ this program)
_________________________________________________________________________

Great, you're already.
Now Put a Blank CDR in your CD-Writer, and click the Icon

After it's done, pop it in your PSX& Enjoy!
(Assuming you have a Mod-Chip not a Game-Enhancer as they don't play your music correctly even if you have the Original and use it to boot the Back-up w/ Mixed Tracks. [unless you kept the new tracks the same exact length as the ones on the original] )

What? Don't have the EZ CD PRO 95 Program? Well then I'll give it to you.
It requires no Serial #'s as it is a Free Program from Adaptec (The only good piece of Software they ever made)
Get it in my Visto Folder, you need to sign-up for Visto if you don't already have a Account go to Visto.com and get one.
It's Free, and only takes 2 Minutes Max to sign up.
