Mod-Chip Install Diagrams for your PlayStation

Go Back to the PSX Section

Hello!
I am Mary Mod-Chip, I am going to tell you a Little about Modifying a SONY PlayStation, so it will Play Imports, and CDR Back-ups.
As with all PlayStations. Use Rosin Core solder, and rosin core solder paste. Not Acid core!!
To get wire I recommend going to the Hardware store or Radio Shack and buying DSL Cable.
Split it open, and remove the 8 tiny multi-colored wires.
The wire should bend and hold shape, not coil back.
It's recommended that you hit the tip of the wire w/ a hammer, as to flatten the Metal inside. Making it bond to the solder points better.
Its good to use a low watt solder iron as well. 15 watt is good for Novice users.
Higher watts can fry your PSX unless you are a pro at this, and have very fast at soldering Skill. But even if you are a wizz at this, don't go beyond 45 watts!
Make sure the solder iron has a near needle tip, or a small tip. But you can always sharped the tip w/ a sharp knife, sand paper, or Grinder.
Get a solder iron that is short in size, and Thin. You want to grasp it like a pencil for more control.
I would also recommend a Magnifying Lens of some sort, so you can really see what you are doing.
Coat the tip of the wire with solder 1st. Set the soldered covered tip on the Exact point where the pic says it should go.
Hold it down and quickly tap the Solder Iron on the Wire, bonding it.
Do not hold the solder iron right above the Mother-Board for lengths of time unless you are soldering, or on top of a solder point for more than 2-3 seconds. The Mother-Board is small and Overheats easily.

And on with the Pics…
